When a computer was rare in the classroom, teachers brought in videos, slide shows and resource books as learning tools. Instead of eliminating these tools, eLearning software combines them and centralizes them into one location. It creates a virtual resource center. Tools like CD ROMs and the Internet are pooled so that the user only has to go one place to connect with all the information he or she needs. Some programs even link up people in different locations who may even speak different languages. Students from around the world can participate in the same learning program.
The Internet has made eLearning possibilities endless. Take for example a report that a Grade 8 student might be doing on the United Nations. In the past, she may have had to scour her school and local city library for books, magazines and videos. With eLearning software, it’s all there at her fingertips. She might even be able to conference with a student in Europe who is also studying the UN. Imagine what they could learn from each other! The two different perspectives they could bring to one another might even teach them something they won’t learn in the classroom.
Investing in eLearning software is definitely an investment into any student’s future, no matter what age or learning level he or she might be working at.
