This is today’s high powered mainframe computer system. VME stands for VERSAmodule Eurocard, and it was first brought into the computing world 25 years ago. The VME was derived out of the need for massive data transfer in the fields of medicine, science, industry and business.
With the size of programs, and the vast amounts of data that are sent and received each day, a system had to be designed that was capable of sending and receiving that data simultaneously, and the VME provided just that. It is capable of handling up to 40 Mbytes per second of data transfer.
